Join our NOTE MSc Module on Neonatal Pulmonology

This October, neonatal professionals can deepen their expertise in one of the most challenging areas of newborn medicine: neonatal pulmonology.

Launching 6 October 2026, the 10-week NOTE Module – Neonatal Pulmonology is delivered by the European School of Neonatology (ESN) in collaboration with the University of Southampton. Led by Professor Olivier Danhaive of Belgium, the postgraduate-level programme combines evidence-based teaching, interactive discussions and real-world clinical cases.

What will you learn?

Participants will develop their knowledge and clinical understanding of:

Respiratory physiology and fetal lung development
Neonatal resuscitation, stabilisation and transition
Surfactant therapy and its role in neonatal respiratory care
Mechanical ventilation in the newborn
Non-invasive respiratory support
Respiratory function and imaging in neonates
Applying current evidence to real clinical cases and decision-making
Learning through interaction with neonatal professionals and experts from around the world

Flexible learning, global expertise

Designed for healthcare professionals with an interest in neonatal respiratory care, the module requires approximately four hours per week of online learning and discussion, plus independent reading. International faculty and guest lecturers provide opportunities to engage with current thinking and practical approaches in neonatal pulmonology.

Learners can choose between an accredited University of Southampton Masters-level module worth 20 M-level credits (10 ECTS), or a non-accredited CPD pathway with a Certificate of Attendance.

Open Call: NPE Trainers & Training Centres

The new Neonatologist Performed Echocardiography (NPE) Training Academy invites expressions of interest from professionals and institutions wishing to become accredited NPE Trainers or NPE Training Centres.

NPE Trainers: We welcome applications from experienced NPE practitioners who are committed to education, supervision, and the advancement of neonatal cardiovascular care.
NPE Training Centres: We invite neonatal units and institutions with established NPE practice to join our growing network of accredited training centres.

Developed under the umbrella of the European School of Neonatology (ESN), the programme establishes common standards for education, assessment, and clinical practice to support high-quality neonatal cardiovascular care throughout Europe.

We welcome applications from institutions and professionals across Europe who share our commitment to education, patient safety, clinical excellence, and collaboration. Together, we can build a sustainable, internationally recognised framework for NPE training and accreditation.
